he rotor-rootered a root that had backed up raw sewage in their basement. He had to wade through sewage to do it and felt like St. George slaying the dragon when the stinky stuff finally went down the drain. He was ready to face employers. He got a job as a security guard!

All this time Jake was reading obsessively about Billy Graham, glad to be shed of Newt’s pessimism. He hadn’t heard of Newt’s problems. Finally, in February, Jake called Newt and told him of his Graham plan. “Then we’ll try to convince Cathy that we should influence our neighbor the Evangelist. With her legal reputation she could really start something.”
“Go for it!” said Newt.
So began Jake’s quest to affect one of the world’s most popular holy men, Billy Graham.
