“Remember when I was dying,” asked Ike, “and I asked you, `How can I know I’m going to Heaven? How can I be sure, absolutely sure, that my sins are forgiven?”
“Your whole past is forgiven,” Graham said smiling. “Well don’t you feel a little bad about that now?” “You’re not in Hell or oblivion are you?” asked Graham. “Yeah, but all this rushing around is exhausting.”
“Just two hours a day, once a week,” Graham replied, but before he could get it out, Eisenhower’s spirit whisked away to hear about some freeway traffic accident on the Interstate Highway System he’d built. It didn’t matter whether the accident occurred while he was president or not, just that he ordered the building of the freeways.
Then Jake, back on Earth, read about the champion golfer Gary Player, who straightened out Graham’s grip. Wearing his omnipresent black outfit, Player appeared before Graham grinning his effervescent smile. “Nothing like knocking ten strokes off your golf score almost instantly,” beamed Graham.
“I got you down to an 11 handicap,” said the Black Knight, “and could have gone further if you hadn’t insisted on keeping the cross grip for putting.” And then Player disappeared, reappearing in yet another legends tourney with the rest of the big three: Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer — the Golden Bear and the King.
