• Instrumental Scholarships awarded on merit by the Head Master.
• Choral Scholarships awarded in association with The Collegiate Church of St Mary.
Academic Music
All boys receive class music lessons during their first two years at the school, including composing sessions using the keyboards in the Music Computer Lab.
In addition to their academic music lessons, all boys in year 7 have the opportunity of learning an orchestral instrument. The Lower Fourth Music Scheme, which is unique to Warwick School, aims to inspire all pupils to gain a lifelong appreciation of music.
From Year 9 onwards, academic music becomes optional and boys begin their GCSE music course laying the foundation for the next two years.
We currently follow the AQA Music GCSE syllabus which is divided into equal proportions of Performing, Composing and Listening with understanding.
The boys study all styles of music from Baroque to Contemporary, Jazz, Music Theatre, Film Music, Popular Music, Rock and World Music.
In addition all boys take a listening paper, compose, perform and record two of their own original compositions.
Results have been excellent with 16 boys gaining A* grades and 6 boys grade A in 2014.
At AS and Advanced Level, we currently study the OCR syllabus. Results are extremely good.
Students continue to develop their skills in the three key areas of Performing, Composing and Listening. History, Analysis and Western Tonal Harmony are studied in greater depth with set works from different genres and historical periods. This course prepares boys for any Higher Education courses they may wish to follow in Music and other subjects.
