What helps you find the energy to give fitness 100% each day?
My drive comes from my inner competitiveness and the fact
that I don’t want to get left behind. I’d love to say that I give
100% every day, but that would be a lie. Some days all I have to
give is 50% and I have to be OK with that. I celebrate that I got
out there. I just go a bit harder the next day.
Do you and your husband have any trips planned for the
summer?
Nick and I leave for our fourth-annual spring road trip to Utah
in April. Our first stop is Moab for two weeks of mountain and
road biking, then on to Grand Staircase Escalante National
Park for road biking and hiking, then on to Hurricane/St.
George, Utah, for another seven to ten days of mountain and
road biking. We are also heading back to Spain for another
road bike trip with friends (another couple of 50th birthdays
to celebrate!). It’s a good life.
Describe your daily routine that helps you complement your
active lifestyle.
We are up around seven a.m. every day, partly because our
11-year-old standard poodle is up and wants a walk, and partly
because I love the quiet of the morning. We have breakfast,
usually eggs and roasted sweet potatoes or oatmeal filled with
seeds and such and a cup of coffee, of course (although Nick
only drinks green tea now). We hit the gym in the morning and
then various activities fill our days, depending on the day and
season. Nick spends time with the store, coming and going,
and I spend time as the COO of our home. I love to meal-
plan, cook, and organize for our next adventure. One of us
takes Rundle for a walk before dinner and, to close each day, a
gentle walk before bed. Did I mention it’s a good life?
What mantra do you and your husband live by?
Well, when downhill skiing, we say, “Take what the mountain
gives you” to ensure we put the day in perspective. If I
TW5M10700 $90 extrapolate that to every day, I suppose we live by “Take what
the day gives you, enjoy it, and take nothing for granted.”
