Having studied the influences of African craft forms
and artifacts on Modern and Contemporary Art, she
created the following painting whose theme evolves
around African history and art focusing on African
people who become living testimony of colonialism.
She was inspired by the relationships created be-
tween the arts styles originating in various countries
during different periods of time and under different

circumstances.

African Portraits documents the stories of African
people. She tried to record African history through
its humble heroes. The hard tried faces of the Afri-
can people become living testimony of the colonial-
ism that took its toll on nearly all the tribes of the
continent. African were either under colonialism;
trapped in their own country or they were sent out
of Africa as slaves to Europe. In both cases, they
were treated as foreigners in their own country and
were exploited by the Europeans that colonized Af-
rica. The dots stand for the unity of Africans and
the way in which they moved in groups out of their
country.
