Children from second to fourth grade of Primary Education enjoyed the English Immersion Camp during the last week of May 2018 in “La Tablada” hostel.
When we get off the bus, Sheffield teacher’s greetings let us know that we were in an English Camp. After settling
down, we took part in several “warming up games” and our teacher organized us in small groups. Everything was ready to get started with the rotating workshops.
This year, most of the activities were focused on the topic of “original jobs”. Thus, throughout the week, we enjoyed several workshops related to this topic: with the help of Nick, our professional chef, we cooked delicious muffins; in the “perfumes lab” we mixed different flavours to made original perfumes and our teacher Yus help us in the artists workshop to create beautiful posters and drawings. Sheffield teachers also know that we need physical activity. This is why, in the coaching workshop we enjoyed playing ball games and practicing different sports. Finally, Mr Baba Ji organized for us some yoga and relaxing activities. We needed it!
The animals’ workshop was a great experience for everyone. This year, we were told about how dogs can help humans in different ways. Actually, a trained dog showed us its amazing smell by distinguishing different substances which were put into several boxes. But best of all, teacher Ed let us pet some of his favourite birds: an owl and an eagle.
Night activities were simply great: quizzes, contests of dances, varied skills competitions and a final disco.
Finally, we must tell you about our hike in “Sierra de Guadarrama”. We walked along “Arcipreste de ita” path until we got natural meadows where we played and had our snakes. Later, we managed to climb a higher mountain. From the top, we enjoyed marvellous views of still snowy mountains.
None of us will forget these amazing days in which, apart from learning English, we learned to live with other people. In fact, all of us become really good friends and discovered how the others can enrich us in many ways.
We really appreciate the involvement of teachers from Sheffield Centre, the work of our wonderful cooks and the work of the helpful teachers who came with us.
