In the 21st Century, it is critical for pharmacy students to master the effective English
communication skills. Particularly, Thailand is a beautiful land of smile with well-known
attractions that draw many tourists, pharmacists-to-be should be capable to cater the health
and pharmaceutical care needs of visitors or individuals who may establish their lives in
Thailand. Given that the country is becoming the outstanding medical hub in Asia,
proficiency in English communication with an international mindset and social etiquette
sensitivity become essential in pharmacy practice nowadays.

Since 2002, when I was designated to pioneer a course entitled 610 314 Pharmacy English -
which has now become 631102 Professional English Communication for Pharmacists (Thai
Program) and 633102 Professional English Communication for Pharmacists (English
Program), I have endeavored to apply Content and Language Integrated Learning - CLIL
approach to create practical teaching and learning activities. In addition, through a good
collaboration with the Health Administration Division, Ministry of Public Health, we have
conducted several professional workshops in pharmacy English communication for
pharmacists who practice in different settings around Thailand.

After years of experience teaching Thai pharmacy students including pharmacists
nationwide, I have compiled to launch this tutorial and workbook for the course. The overall
goal is to equip learners to know and be competent when communicating in English in
various situations i.e. social daily life, academic, and clinical settings. In fact, it is purported to
help learners to understand, think, express and respond in English with more confidence. It
also introduces cultural aspects and proper social etiquette when dealing with foreigners.
Specifically, it emphasizes relevant skills to prepare our Pharm D students regarding
             professional  English  use  in  the  actual  world,  for  instance,  providing  pharmacy  services;
reading and critically appraise various types of reading materials in health and
pharmaceutical-related sciences; writing in business purposes; making successful
presentations; and preparing winning job application. Your valuable suggestions, critical or
otherwise, are greatly appreciated and they will form the basis for a better improvement of
             this book.

Hopefully, this course teaching and workbook will be useful for Pharm D students to embark
on the road to success in their pharmacy career.
