Dublin & Ireland's
Ancient East
a truly unique city
Dublin - know in Irish as Baile Átha Cliath, meaning “town of
the hurdled fjord”, is Ireland’s capital and most populous city.
Originally founded as a Viking settlement, it evolved into the
Kingdom of Dublin and became the island’s principal city
following the Norman invasion. The city expanded rapidly from
the 17th century. Today Dublin is a vibrant city which is famed
as much for its nightlife and cultural events as it is for its
historic museums.
The city has it all, a charming mix of medieval, Georgian and
modern architecture, a wealth of history and culture, a
legendary literary tradition, wonderful shopping and exquisite
dining. Whether its time spent visiting Trinity College and the
Book of Kells or sampling a pint of Guinness at the Guinness
Store House, you can be sure your time well spent.
