Ireland's
South West
Coast
a truly unique destination
Nowhere else is the rugged and beautiful landscape more
stunning than the South West of Ireland. Its many bays, inlets
and coastline views are simply awe-inspiring. Mountain and
forest landscapes with flowing rivers, waterfalls and glaciated
lakes make the South West the most visited region of Ireland
for its beauty alone.
This part of Ireland was one of the main areas for emigration
to the United States of America. On January 1, 1892, Annie
Moore, a teenager from County Cork, was the first immigrant
processed at Ellis Island. She had made the nearly two-week
journey across the Atlantic Ocean in steerage with her two
younger brothers. Annie later raised a family on New York
City’s Lower East Side. Where Annie led over 1 Million Irish
followed to the ‘land of opportunity’. It is often said the next
parish from the West of Ireland is Manhattan.
