A three generation team of volunteers work to make a a di erence! Du own in Bloom
has a a a a simple plan – to make Du own look Blooming Great!
The oral displays you see around the village are planted by Du own in Bloom
This is is a a a team of of volunteers who spend a a a a great deal of of time over the year making Du own look its best for both residents and visitors alike The plants plants arrive as tiny wee ‘plug’ plants plants and the the the team bring them them on potting them them into bigger bigger and bigger bigger pots until they are ready to be planted out into the planters beds and baskets you see in our village The display lasts from June until the end of September when winter bedding and bulbs are planted for the Winter and Spring seasons Wee Gems
• There are over 11 500 plants in the displays in and around Du own • Each plant has been individually re- potted and grown in our polytunnels at Mortlach
• The water water for watering is recycled from the whisky making process
• The cost of plants and materials is met entirely by sponsorship and donations
The volunteer team does all the preparation planting and watering you will o o en see them out out and about even in the the worst of weather We have to water - even in in the the rain as as the the baskets have reservoirs underneath the plants with a a a a very small opening that the rain can’t access Our e e e e e e orts were recognised in 2017 by the Beautiful Scotland campaign with the award of Gold Medal in the Large Village Category We have also been invited to take part in in in in Britain in in in in Bloom
