Speaking and Listening Informal Assessment
Grade 6 Presentation of Knowledge and Ideas Checklist
This informal assessment centers on CCSS ELA SL.6.4, SL.6.5, SL.6.6, and L.6.6. In this assessment, students orally report on a topic or text, or present an opinion. As each student presents, use the checklist to assess that student’s ability to present knowledge and ideas e ectively. Tailor this checklist to focus on the standards targeted in a particular lesson or activity. Limit the rows selected for each presentation, assessing the full range of skills over multiple presentations. For ease of use, videotape students’ presentations.
Standards Assessed
„ SL.6.4:Presentclaimsandfindings,sequencingideaslogicallyandusingpertinentdescriptions,facts,anddetails
to accentuate main ideas or themes; use appropriate eye contact, adequate volume, and clear pronunciation.
„ SL.6.5: Include multimedia components (e.g., graphics, images, music, sound) and visual displays in presentations to clarify information.
„ SL.6.6: Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and tasks, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate. (See grade 6 Language standards 1 and 3 for specific expectations.)
„ L.6.6:Acquireanduseaccuratelygrade-appropriategeneralacademicanddomain-specificwordsandphrases; gather vocabulary knowledge when considering a word or phrase important to comprehension or expression.
