mutations were not a common thing among humans and that the world was a much brighter and happier place back then. She was sitting at her desk studying for an upcoming exam when the doctor called her over.
“Hey Bianca Usalina, could you come with me we have to get some medicinal plants?” said the doctor from another room.
“But doesn’t someone need to stay in the clinic, Doctor?” asked Usalina.
Usalina was a very rare result of a mutation that happened to a little girl. The mutation had changed her completely into a bunny with wings and special healing abilities. This mutation also granted her vast knowledge of medicine but outside of that, she was not exactly the brightest. She became a nurse to help people so that they do not have to go through the same mutation as her. It was very painful for her and her family disowned her out of fear that they would also mutate. Usalina was small and fragile and would not have been able to survive on her own had the Doctor and Bianca not found her.
“Don’t worry, it will be fine we won’t be gone for too long,” responded the Doctor.
Unlike Usalina the Doctor was human and a genius though it was
hard to tell. He never took things too seriously and always slacked off
when he could, but Bianca knew he was hiding a cunning genius under all
of that. A lot of mystery surrounded the Doctor but Bianca and Usalina never really pried into his past too much.
“At least put up the closed sign Doctor or we might lose reputation,” retorted Bianca coldly.
Bianca too was a genius but differently than the doctor. He was cunning but she was on another level. Her parents had been very strict about her education growing up and she was part of a race of nonhumans who even though they resembled humans almost perfectly their life spans were longer, and they were wiser and physically stronger than humans. They were called Exouvius. A single member of the Exouvius clan could take out an army of human soldiers equipped with weapons and armor. However, Bianca’s family was from one of the 3 royal bloodlines of Exouvius. This made her smarter and stronger than her kind but that was not the reason behind her brilliance. She had always had a love and passion for learning always wanting to know more. She would lock herself in her room reading for days on end and studying new topics.
“Fine, Fine,” said the Doctor, “but, I still want you to leave my game on. I have an important match to finish when we get back and turning off the power would shut it off.”
“I’m afraid that won’t be happening! The power bill is already expensive enough as it is!” answered Bianca as she shut off the power.
“Bianca why would you do that! You know that game is important to me!” yelled the doctor in a childish manner.
“It will be fine doctor I bet you can get back to where you were when we get back,” said Usalina trying to cheer up the doctor.
“Don’t encourage him, Usalina, you’ll only make it worse! Now come on those plants are not going to walk themselves here!” said Bianca staring at the doctor with cold emotionless eyes.
“Actually...” said the doctor
“Doctor, even if they did mutate to have legs, they are not going to walk themselves here so please spot talking and start walking before you embarrass yourself even more,” Bianca said cutting off the doctor. “Plus, you are the only one who knows the way,” she added under her breath.
“Did you say something?” Asked Usalina
“Of course not! now come on!”
But she knew Usalina had heard her. After all, the mutation did make her a bunny, heightening her hearing
tremendously, but as long as the doctor did not hear it, she did not mind.
A few minutes later they arrived at the place where they would find the medicinal plants. It was cold and dark like
a winter day. A small breeze blew giving everyone chills. The air was dirty and thick making it very hard to breathe. The air was so polluted that the sun could barely get through and illuminate this already sickening place. There were dead animals on the floor in the process of decomposing. They were big and small some dead for a while and some only passed minutes ago. Some of the most putrid mutations fed off of the miasma in the air making them larger and deadlier. There was garbage everywhere and the soil was so polluted you couldn’t tell the difference between it and oil. There were also people there well, at least if you could call them people. They had been affected by the unsanitary conditions and the
