Victoria A. Figueroa ‘24 participated in the Florida House of Representative Page and Messenger Program in Tallahassee. Over the course of one week, she learned about the legislative process and had the opportunity to meet with key leaders. Sponsored by Representative Heather Fitzenhagen from Ft. Myers, Victoria even led the Pledge of Allegiance during Session, and was able to tour the Florida Supreme Court and Florida Capitol.
More than 40 freshmen competed in the Miami-Dade History Fair at the HistoryMiami Museum, presenting the results of their research projects
in categories such as websites, documentaries, exhibits, and papers. Twenty-five students placed in the top two of their respective categories, becoming eligible to continue on to the State competition. This year’s group of participants was not only the largest group to participate at the county level, but also the biggest group to advance to the next level of competition.
Fifth grade science students won the Pinecrest Gardens 6th Annual Environmental Art Contest for grades 4-6 for their depiction of “Wings of the Tropics.”
Eugene Li ‘20 was selected as a National Merit Scholar. For the second year in a row, Gulliver boasted five semifinalists who all advanced to become finalists including Eugene, Joey Elsbernd ‘20, Matthew Garcia ‘20, Nicole Krolak ‘20, and Julia Rosenthal ‘20.
Seven Middle School students were recognized for their creative writing in Spanish, earning ribbons in the World Languages Creative Writing category of the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair. Several students also won awards for their submissions in English.
Seven Gulliver students won Judges’ Awards for their entries in the Creative Writing Department of The Fair 2020. Each year students submit original poetry and short stories into the competition, regularly placing in the top-three, however, it is a special honor to receive a Judges’ Award.
Jake Seymour ‘20 was one of 45 students selected from the U.S. to participate in Yale Young Global Scholars - Beijing: Asia in the 21st Century -- a two-week academic program designed to help young leaders gain a
