"Doña Marta: A favela facing the sea".
The site: The favela is located in the Morro
Santa Marta. It has two characteristics of
relevance: its location - in the historic and
central district of Botafogo-, and its landscape
conditions - it is located on the southeastern
slope of the hill, enjoying exceptional views of
Copacabana beach, Sugar Loaf, Cristo
Redentor and Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.
Architectural Project 3. The experience of this
Workshop was incorporated the course
Architectural Project 3. The work initially
consisted in presenting the site from those who
traveled to Rio to the rest of the students,
providing them a photographic and graphic
database and transmitting the proposed
challenges.
Project: collaborative work. The main objectives
were: reduce social inequality, provide housing
for the residents by re-establishing them within
the neighborhood, and offer quality public
spaces and intensive programs. Thus, the
exercise carried out by teachers, collaborators
and students of PA3, was developed as a work
of russian dolls, proposing different exercises
within exercises, in which special focus was
placed on: the site and its possible locations;
the exploration of the boundaries between the
public and the private, between the common
and the own; emerging programmatic inquiries,
and a wide material search.
