               and mightie sword shall visite Liuiathan, that vnder foote, euen the crowne and the pride of the

               pearcing serpent, euen Liuiathan, that crooked drunkards of Ephraim. For his glorious beautie
               serpent, and he shall slay the dragon that is in shall be a fading floure, which is vpon the head
               the sea.  2  In that daye sing of the vineyarde of of the valley of them that be fatte, and as the
               redde wine.   3  I the Lord doe keepe it: I will hastie fruite afore sommer, which when hee that
               water it euery moment: least any assaile it, I    looketh vpon it, seeth it, while it is in his hand,

               will keepe it night and day.   4  Anger is not in  he eateth it. In that day shall the Lord of hostes
               mee: who would set the briers and the thornes     be for a crowne of glory, and for a diademe of
               against me in battel? I would go through them, beautie vnto the residue of his people: And for a

               I would burne them together.   5  Or will he feele spirite of iudgement to him that sitteth in iudge-
               my strength, that he may make peace with me, ment, and for strength vnto them that turne
               and be at one with me? Hereafter, Iaakob shall away the battell to the gate. But they haue erred

               take roote: Israel shall florish and growe, and because of wine, and are out of the way by strong
               the world shall be filled with fruite.  7 Hath hee drinke: the priest and the prophet haue erred by
               smitten him as hee smote those that smote him?    strong drinke: they are swallowed vp with wine:
               or is hee slaine according to the slaughter of    they haue gone astraye through strong drinke:
               them that were slaine by him?    8  In measure in  they faile in vision: they stumble in iudgement.

               of the East winde.  9  By this therefore shall the  place is cleane. Whome shall he teache knowl-
               iniquitie of Iaakob be purged, and this is all the  edge? and whome shall he make to vnderstand
               fruit, the taking away of his sinne: whe he shall  the thinges that hee heareth? them that are
               make all the stones of the altars, as chalke stones  weyned from the milke, and drawen from the
               broken in pieces, that the groues and images may  breastes.  10  For precept must be vpon precept,
               not stand vp.   10  Yet the defenced citie shalbe  precept vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto
               desolate, and the habitation shalbe forsaken, and  line, there a litle, and there a litle.  11  For with a
               left like a wildernes. There shall the calfe feede,  stammering tongue and with a strange language
               and there shall he lie, and consume the branches shall he speake vnto this people.  12  Vnto whome
               thereof.  11 When the boughes of it are drie, they hee saide, This is the rest: giue rest to him that is
               shalbe broken: the women come, and set them weary: and this is the refreshing, but they would
               on fire: for it is a people of none vnderstading:  not heare.  13  Therefore shall the worde of the
               therefore hee that made them, shall not haue Lord be vnto them precept vpon precept, precept
               compassion of them, and he that formed them,      vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto line, there
               shall haue no mercie on them.     12  And in that  a litle and there a litle, that they may goe, and fall
               day shall the Lord thresh from the chanell of     backward, and be broken, and be snared, and be
               the Riuer vnto the riuer of Egypt, and ye shalbe  taken.  14 Wherefore, heare the worde of the Lord,
               gathered, one by one, O children of Israel.  13 In ye scornefull men that rule this people, which is
               that day also shall the great trumpet be blowen, at Ierusalem.  15  Because ye haue said, We haue
               and they shall come, which perished in the land made a couenant with death, and with hell are
               of Asshur: and they that were chased into the we at agreement: though a scourge runne ouer,
               lande of Egypt, and they shall worship the Lord and passe through, it shall not come at vs: for
               in the holy Mount at Ierusalem.                   we haue made falshood our refuge, and vnder

                                                                 Lord God, Behold, I will laye in Zion a stone,
                  1  Woe to the crowne of pride, the drunkards   a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure
               of Ephraim: for his glorious beautie shall be a   foundation. Hee that beleeueth, shall not make
               fading flowre, which is vpon the head of the      haste.  17  Iudgement also will I laye to the rule,
               valley of them that be fat, and are ouercome      and righteousnesse to the balance, and the haile
               with wine.   2  Beholde, the Lord hath a mightie  shall sweepe away the vaine confidence, and the
               and strong hoste, like a tempest of haile, and a  waters shall ouerflowe the secret place.  18  And
               whirlewinde that ouerthroweth, like a tempest     your couenant with death shalbe disanulled, and
               of mightie waters that ouerflowe, which throwe    your agreement with hell shall not stand: when
               to the ground mightily.   3  They shall be troden  a scourge shall runne ouer and passe through,
