requirements from the parents and incorporate a learning platform that best fits their

                        school community as a whole. This can be achieved by gathering qualitative data
                        from the parents via face-to-face meetings, email communications and

                        questionnaires. Schools can then begin to start creating eLearning resources and best
                        practice examples that are tailored towards the needs of the parents and the pupils.




                         2.6 Digital Video Production as an Instructional Tool

                        The use of multimedia in education has changed the way pupils learn, allowing them
                        to collaborate and communicate with their peers inside and outside of the normal

                        school hours through a medium that is innate to them. If their learning environment
                        mirrors the ways in which they engage with the world, they will excel in their

                        education (Christen, 2009). When pupils collaborate on group projects or use peer-

                        to-peer assessment they are learning from their peers (Keser et al., 2011). These
                        traits have now transitioned into the workforce with many companies seeking

                        employees who possess ‘soft skills’ such as collaboration, customer satisfaction, and
                        cross-functional leadership" (Christen, 2009, p.29). As a result, teachers have been

                        progressive in the use of these technologies enriching their lessons with a mixture of

                        video, text, audio and animation in order to assist and appeal to the many learning
                        styles and requirements of their pupils. One of the emerging technologies in the

                        educational sector over the past decade is the use of digital video (Feierabend &
                        Klingler, 2003).



                        Video technology has proven to be an accessible, interactive and multifunctional tool
                        that assists the teacher in motivating and instructing the learner. These benefits do

                        not exclusively apply to younger students, as research has shown that interventions
                        such as online demonstration videos that instruct parents on how to read with their

                        child have been effective in improving reading achievement (Purcell-Gates et al.,
