Anna’s art
recognised
in national
competition
The creative flair of Anna Harcke
was noted by judges for the RSA
Art Award 2020, who awarded her
second prize in the junior category of
the competition. The award has been Emma Mitchell (S3)
running since 1986 and is considered
by teachers to be one of the most
prestigious awards made to pupils. The
award has no theme and instead the
emphasis is on the skills of technique,
observation and interpretation. In
particular, the judges award prizes for
work which displays creativity and
originality. The following pupils were

among felters’ intermediate category, Emma Mitchell

creations and Murray Kilgour; in the senior (S5)
category, Katie Aspinall and Conrad
Needle Felting Club took place during Annesley.
Friday lunchtimes and was always very
busy with keen S1s excited to make Mrs Amanda Thomson
a range of cute creations out of wool.
Pupils made little characters such as BB8
and Yoda from Star Wars, along with
cute little animals, by using a barbed
needle to push the wool fibres together
with skill and focus (all while eating their
lunch!) to make their work. One of the
highlights of the session was making
festive baubles to sell at the Art and
Design National 5 and Higher Exhibition Anna Harcke (S1) Jamie Anderson
(S1)
in aid of Sick Kids, raising £65.
