In this excerpt from Letitia Hargrave’s letter to her mother from May, 1842, she describes the poor health of Duncan Finlayson, who suffered an accidental gunshot wound in 1825, which he never fully recovered from. She goes on to mention the death of Nicol Finlayson’s young wife Elizabeth “Betsie” Kennedy Finlayson of dropsy at Red River earlier that year and the effect it has had on Nicol.
