John Finlayson (standing) & Son Nick w/Family 1889 Probably taken at Longlac or Mobert Back Row From R-L: John Finlayson (standing), Angelique Shebagijig Finlayson (w/Sarah b. 1887), Nick (w/Eliza b. 1888), Jane (w/Louise b. 1889 in Cradleboard). The only boy born before 1889 was Emile in 1885 (2nd from right, sitting in front of Nick). I suspect the rest of the children are the orphaned kids of Nick’s sister Mary and her husband Noel Samuel Desmulon. Both died within five days of each other in 1889 (flu perhaps) and Nick adopted at least 3 of their nine children, including Ellis Felix Desmulon (b. 1887), so he would be about 2 years old in this picture, probably sitting far right next to Emile. We know for certain that Ellis and his brothers Narcisse and Ignace were all living with Nick and Jane in the 1901 (Ontario Census). Ignace and Narcisse were older than Ellis so I suspect they are the older looking boys in the picture. The girl standing next to Jane is likely one of Mary’s orphaned daughters.
