Karen Anne Carpenter (March 2, 1950 – February 4, 1983) was an
American singer and drummer who, along with her older brother Richard,
was part of the duo the Carpenters. She was praised for her 3-
octave contralto vocal range. Her drumming abilities were viewed
positively by other musicians and critics. Carpenter suffered
from anorexia nervosa, which was little-known at the time. Her death
from heart failure at age 32, related to complications of her illness, led to
increased visibility and awareness of eating disorders.

American singer-songwriter and musician. Regarded as one of the most
significant and influential American singers and songwriters of the 20th
century, Williams recorded 35 singles (five released posthumously) that
reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Country & Western Best Sellers chart,
including 11 that ranked number one. Years of back pain, alcoholism and
prescription drug abuse severely compromised his health. He died on New
Hank Williams Year’s Day 1953, at the age of 29.
