It is estimated that more than one million children have moved in with their grandparents because their parents are in rehab or jail because of their addiction to drugs. Many grandparents have to continue or go back to work because their savings are depleted by court costs, lawyer fees etc.

Illegal drug use is s global problem. Australia came in just behind the United States for the use of several illicit drugs, including co- caine and methamphetamine.

At a local Emergency Room dispatch, paramedics are observing the change firsthand. “We used to do a lot of pills (opioids), but now the problem is methamphet- amine,” says a paramedic who asked to be identified. “And it’s worse because there’s no Narcan for meth- amphetamine,” he continued, referring to the antidote that reverses an opioid overdose.
“By the time Fridays rolled around,” an Elementary School principal reported that she worried whether her students would survive a couple of days away from school.
