The existing house is one of excess; excess built form, excess materials, excess services and most importantly, excess impact
                                       on the natural environment.  The existing dwelling is poorly detailed and constructed, it is deteriorating despite its young age,
                                       and requires vast amounts of energy to run and maintain.

                                       Its footprint leaves too large an impact on the environment, and it has removed too much of the coastal landscape and habitat
                                       to make way for its existence.

                                       This being said, the single most disturbing reality is the homes purposeful disconnect from nature and the surrounding land-
                                       scape.  The ocean is viewed through a glass facade, with the view framed like a tv screen, the connection with the reality of this
                                       experience limited. There are little to no views to the front of the site from inside the existing dwelling, and in fact, it feels like this
                                       landscape has been cancelled out as having no relevance.
