Parents and Guardians:
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our lives have changed. What was once a normal part of life is now different. Schools are no exception to this change. As a district, we are continuing to make your child’s school experience similar to what it was like prior to March 13th, 2020 when Governor DeWine closed schools and went to online learning. In this addendum, only the changes caused by the outbreak are going to be addressed. It is our hope that the need for the changes will eventually fade out much like the pandemic itself.
In order to adapt to any change, communication will be crucial. We will continue to keep you up-to-date on any changes we receive from the federal, state or local authorities. We anticipate an announcement in the future that all students are required to return back to school. In return, we will need to hear from you regarding any concerns or confusion you might have.
In regards to student attendance, if your child or family members do acquire the virus, have come in contact with someone with the virus or they are sick, please do not send them to school. Your family’s privacy will be protected according to the HIPAA Laws already in place. We ask you then to follow the public health guidelines on what to do if you think your family has been exposed to the virus. All student absences will need to be reported in compliance with Sheffield-Sheffield Lake City Schools Board Policy and the School Handbook policies in regards to student attendance. Students will need to have a doctor or Lorain County Public Health Official approval in order to return to school.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, students may choose to wear Protective Personal Equipment (PPE’s). All students will be expected to comply with State and Local Government regulations in regards to the wearing and use of PPE’s. All PPE’s will be expected to be in compliance with Sheffield-Sheffield Lake City Schools Board Policy and the School Handbook policies in regards to student apparel.
We are still living in unprecedented times. Decisions from public health officials will continue to affect our daily lives. As a school district, we will adapt as those decisions require us to change. Remember, we are in this together.
