Mono loop knot

This fixed-loop knot is superior to some angling loops in terms of strength and slip resistance.

Tie an overhand knot (see page 292) a few inches or centimeters from the end of the line, then pass

the line around the eye or ring and back through the knot, re-entering on the same side as it
emerged (1). Wrap the line around the standing part (2, 3)—as many as seven times for the
thinnest lines, but fewer in stronger lines, and as few as three in the thickest ones. Finally, tuck the

tag end back through the knot alongside the standing part (4). Tighten the wrapping turns and
then the entire knot, before trimming the end off close to it (5).
