Blast furnace gas
Genesis & Process
⁄ Also known as “Tieglgas” or “Gichtgas”
⁄ Generated as a by-product of blast furnaces
during the reduction of iron ore with coke to metallic iron
⁄ For combustion, mostly enrichment of natural
or other siderugical gases needed (just for flaring)
- Fairly low heating value ~0,8kWh/m³
⁄ Presently used, after enrichment, in boilers or power plants
(steam plant) or directly flared
⁄ Synthesis (endoderm):
• Boduard reaction
• C + CO → 2CO
2
• Water gas reaction
• C + H O → H + CO
