Thoughts from
Harlan’s desk……….
How would you like to take 6 strokes off your golf score?
I am serious. 6 shots! I would like to think everyone would line up at my Pro
Shop door to see what I am selling. But I am not selling anything.
Every day Bill, Nick and I watch all the members walk past the putting green
and go bang some range balls. Did you know a Tour Pro averages 29.1 putts
per round compared to an average amateur player’s 35 putts per round? I
believe that is 6 shots. The great thing is you don’t have to lift weights, be
able to ride a bike 30 miles, or bend like a pretzel to be a good putter.
A Tour Pro makes 99.4% of the 3 footers they try. Have you ever tried to
make 10 straight 3 footers? Have you ever tried to make 3 in a row?
I am not trying to sound snarky, but I want to emphasize how easy it is to
improve. 10 minutes on the putting green doing the drills we will cover in
this issue and you will make more putts. It isn’t like you have anywhere else
to go these days! My staff and I are going to start challenging each and
everyone of you to be a better putter. Don’t be afraid to pull us out of the
Pro Shop and putt with you for 5 minutes. It is always easier to do it with a
friend.
It’s time for us as a club to be better golfers…...1 three footer at a time.
You just have to make an effort!
