CHONG HANG
Shanghai
circa 1885-1930
Although not a mark often found, Chong Hang was obviously a discerning retail silversmith operating in
Shanghai at a period when the affluent International community and the Chinese middle class were growing at
its fastest rate.
“Not a mark often
found” is perhaps an
understatement - it is
a rare mark to find,
but the workmanship
on this goblet shouts
of high quality and of
a to create superb
items.
Quite why this mark is
so scarce is a mystery
and research is
ongoing to
understand more of
this mark.
