            Early pseudo hallmarks of
            Cum Shing








            From the items that have been found and catalogued that bear the Cum Shing silver mark, we know it is one of
            the longest known working retail silversmiths in Canton.



                                                             Cum  Shing,  as  with  many  of  his  counterparts,  turned
                                                             their hand to creating flatware for the Western market.
                                                             Cum  Shing,  cutlery  in  the  traditional  Western  neo-
                                                             classical  patterns  was  certainly  part  of  the  early
                                                             repertoire but in the latter half of the 19th century Cum
                                                             Shing  opted  to  create  flatware  embellished  with
                                                             intricate  traditional  Chinese  motifs.  This  circa  1890
                                                             dessert  fork  is  part  of  a  complete  canteen  that  was
                                                             obviously  custom  made  since  all  the  pieces  carry  a
                                                             monogram.
