POH SING [aka PO HSING] also known as PAU KUANG COMPANY/PO KING/PK
            Shanghai
            circa 1870-1930

Poh Sing was a retail silversmith operating in Shanghai with connections also in Hong Kong. It was
particularly known for its collaboration with the silversmith Huang Jiu Ji who specialised in
silverwares with applied traditional motifs of champlevé enamel - in particular tea sets and tea pots.

Huang Jiu Ji the silversmith has, in recent years, become a highly sought after maker, where
extraordinary values at auction have been achieved in comparison to similar pieces without enamel
            work and by other makers.

The firm was also [and confusingly] known as [or bore marks of] Pau Kuang Company [P.K. or Po
King] as shown below. The research being carried out now is focusing on whether Poh Sing was
solely Shanghai based and Pau Kaung [Po King] Hong Kong based or whether the two marks were
            inter-changeable.

To confuse matters even more, it is common to see silver and enamel work tea sets with pieces
carrying a mixture of Poh Sing and Po King marks, yet the sets are clearly not “harlequin” sets.

The name Po King is often mistakenly interpreted as Po Hing
