         A PALE GREENISH-WHITE JADE ARCHAISTIC
         ‘MYTHICAL BEAST’ VESSEL AND COVER
         INCISED QIANLONG FANGGU FOUR-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE
         PERIOD (1736-1795)
         The angular vessel is crisply carved in the form of an archaic bronze
         gong, the pouring vessel is decorated in relief on each side with an
         archaistic winged mythical beast with an open mouth from which
         emanates a protruding lip suspending a loose ring. The scroll-form
         handle is entwined with a clambering chilong. The vessel stands on
         a spreading foot decorated with a petal band. The domed cover is
         similarly decorated and is surmounted by a phoenix finial. The well-
         polished stone is of an even pale greenish-white tone.
