A yellow nephrite snuff bottle
1740-1860
Of compressed ovoid form with a flat lip and oval foot rim surrounding
a deeply recessed foot, the interior very well-hollowed, the exterior
unadorned with the exception of finely carved ring mask handles to the
narrow sides, the stone of a “yellow steamed chestnut” color.

The distinctive “floppy eared” mask handles with bulging eyes link
this bottle to the “master-of-the rocks” school, as discussed in Moss,
Graham and Tsang A treasury of Chinese snuff bottles the Mary and
George Bloch collection vol 1 pp. 368-269.

A yellow and russet nephrite snuff bottle
1740-1860
Of upright rectangular form with sloping shoulders, a flat lip and a high oval
foot rim, the interior very well-hollowed, one side of the exterior carved in high
relief depicting a monkey presenting a peach to the immortal Magu beneath
an arching pine, the stone with a yellow-green hue with a russet skin.
