BADGES OF BEARS, BUZI
19TH CENTURY
Each badge is worked in satin stitch with a bear standing on rocks
above crashing waves tossed with Buddhist emblems worked in
Peking knot, all amidst blossoming peach, prunus, peony and lingzhi
growing from rocks, and beneath ruyi-form clouds interspersed with
bats, in shades of red, peach, blue, white, and yellow.

A SILK MILITARY RANK BADGE OF A PANTHER, BUZI
19TH CENTURY
Made for a civil offcial of the sixth rank, the badge is worked in
Peking knot and couched gold thread with a panther (bao) standing
on a rock formation above undulating waves interspersed with
auspicious symbols and beneath clouds and bats, all surrounded by an
outer border of alternating fower scroll, key fret, and bats.
