Peter Fenger (1688-1737) of Denmark was a Supercargo for the Dutch
Asiatic Company and made many trips to China. It is likely that he acquired
this box on one of his travels. In the photograph of his descendants Anna and
Frederik Hjort, pictured here in their drawing room in 1935, the box is placed
on the table between them.
