   The Ch'in emperor, who aimed at universal dominion,
may have heard rumors of the conquests of Alexan-

der the Great in Central Asia. But it was not till the

next dynasty, the Han, that regular communication
was opened up with western countries by sending Chang
Ch'ien on a mission to the Yeuh-ti, or Indo-Seyths,
