A PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE ‘IMMORTALS’ FACETED VASES
19TH CENTURY
Each vase is applied with two iron-red animal-mask and gold ring handles and is decorated on each side
with a diferent scene of immortals: the Three Star Gods on one facet, the Eight Daoist Immortals as well
as Liuhai and his three-legged toad on two adjacent facets, and fve immortals examining a scroll painted
with a taijitu symbol on the fourth side below the goddess Xiwangmu seated on a phoenix on the shoulder,
all in a setting of blue-green mountains.
