A PAIR OF HUANGHUALI HORSESHOE-BACK CHAIRS
20th century
The curved backrest carved naturalistically as a bamboo stem, with
a spindle-form splat, the uprights similarly carved and continuing
through the rectangular seat and joined with two hump-back
stretchers, one forming an apron, the lower one forming a foot rest.
Each: 70cm (27 1/2in) x 51cm (20in) x 100cm (39 1/2in) (2).

20th century
With a curved backrest, set with a splat carved in openwork with a
qilin and chilong, with brass strapwork mounts strengthening and
embellishing the joints, the seat stretchers carved with further chilong
and formed with rattan ropes, the x-frame legs with a hinged foot
rest. 76cm (30in) x 60cm (23 1/2in) x 107cm (43in)
