A CIZHOU-TYPE CUT-GLAZE 'FLOWER' JAR
SONG DYNASTY (960-1279)
The ovoid jar is carved through the dark brown slip to the white slip
ground with a broad band of large peony blossoms with leafy tendrils,
all below bands of lingzhi and bands of stylized lappets around the neck
and the foot rim.

The well-potted vase has an inverted pear-shape with narrow splayed foot and
a domed cover with fnial, all covered with a creamy ivory-coloured glaze.
