Canton: [The Waterfront]; 'Five Story Pagoda'; 'North Gate Pagoda'; 'In 1863 Sylvester Dutton [a San Francisco photographer, born Maine,
'Canton Pagoda 2800 years old [Flower Pagoda]'; 'Cemetery c.1825] and a certain Michaels (possibly Vince Michaels) were partners in
Whampoa'; and 'Monastery White Cloud Mts' the frm of Dutton and Michaels in Canton. Subsequently Dutton opened
all signed 'Dutton & Michaels', titled, and three dated '1863' in the plates a gallery on his own in Honam from 1864 to 1866. On December 1864, for
albumen silver prints example, he advertised that his gallery, "two doors down from Augustine
10√ x 15√in. (27.6 x 40.3cm.) and smaller Heard & Co.'s" featured a supply of "Panoramic, and single views of Canton,
unframed Whampoa and Macao."' (P.E. Palmquist and T.R. Kailbourn, Pioneer
