Grasses (Shu¯iguso¯), 1743
natsu no kite just when summer arrives
kakine mo tawa ni and deutzia flowers in bloom
sakeru u no hana cause the hedge to droop.
Hototogisu In the village of Shinobu
Shinobu no sato ni where the cuckoo dwells,
sato nare yo its cry is now heard,
mada u no hana no while we await next month
tsuki matsu goro when deutzia flowers bloom.
