A WHITE JADE CARVING OF A MYTHICAL BEAST A WHITE JADE ‘MONKEY AND PEACH’ CARVING
Well carved and formed as a recumbent ruishou with a long, finely 18th/19th century
incised mane, the stone of a fine white color. Carved as a peach held by one large monkey with a baby monkey
1 3/4in (4.5cm) long clambering up the fruit, the stone of soft white hue with cloudy
$2,000 - 3,000 inclusions and the underside with russet patches cleverly incised to
depict a leaf.

The monkey, 猴 hou, and peach, 壽桃 shoutao, together symbolize
the wish for long life in the expression 靈猴獻壽 linghou xianshou,

The pebble carved with two monkeys clambering up the sides of
a pointed peach issuing from a gnarled leafy branch and beside a
second, smaller peach.
