A GREENISH-YELLOW AND RUSSET JADE SNUFF BOTTLE
MASTER OF THE ROCKS SCHOOL, 1740-1850
The pear-shaped body is carved through the russet ‘skin’ on one
side with a stag grasping a lingzhi sprig in its mouth while standing
beneath a pine tree, its branches framing a darker russet moon. The
reverse is carved with Shoulao holding a staff standing on clouds
beside a monkey carrying a fruiting peach branch, and the shoulders
are carved with mask and ring handles. The stone is of yellowish-
olive color.

A RARE SOAPSTONE ‘BASKETWEAVE’ SNUFF BOTTLE
PROBABLY IMPERIAL, 1730-1840
The sides are carved with basketweave pattern below the plain neck.
The stone is of warm, pale beige color with some cloudy white
inclusions.
