906 A native of Zhejiang province, Shen Chu
A RARE INSCRIBED PALE-GREEN JADE (1735-1799) was a member of the Hanlin
RUYI SCEPTER academy and involved in compiling the Siku
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795) Quanshu (The Complete Library of the Four
Treasures). He held several important posts
The tapering handle is carved with during the Qianlong and Jiaqing periods,
blossoming tree peony issuing from including the Deputy Minister of Rites and
rockwork above the pierced, faceted end. the Minister of Defense.
The head is carved in the shape of a lingzhi,
enclosing a gift inscription incorporating the 清乾隆 青白玉雕牡丹詩文如意
signature of Shen Chu. The stone is of an
even pale greenish tone.
