Engraved upon an ivory Netsuke of exquisite workman-
ship the inscription is enlarged, the original being ex-

ceedingly minute, as the facsimile to the right shows. Iwa-
Mi SHiu, Ka-ai gawa, Sei-yo-do, Tomi-haru jo no sho
cnio-KOKU. Chiokokii sho no jo Tomi-haru Seiyodo Ka-ai gawa
shiu Iwami. Meaning: Engraved— the mark of the lady Tomi-
haru in the house of Seiyo by the river Ka-ai, in the province of
Iwami.
