55 A LACQUER WRITING BOX (SUZURIBAKO)
EDO-MEIJI PERIOD (EARLY 19TH CENTURY)
A rectangular box with faceted corners,
elaborately decorated in gold and silver lacquer
takamaki-e, kirikane in gold and silver leaf,
inlaid silver and gold foils on nashiji ground,
with design of autumnal mountain landscape,
interior desgined with spring landscape,
continuous desgin to the interiors of divider
and box, fitted with silver water dropper in the
form of overlapping maple and cherry blossom
with gilt details, ink stone, two brushes, a paper
pricker, knife, ink cake stand; with silver rims
