A THANGKA DEPICTING BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI
TIBET, 18TH CENTURY
The Buddha is seated in dhyanasana on a multicolored lotus, his hands held before him in dharmachakra
mudra. He wears saffron and red robes finely detailed in gilt, his peaceful face backed by a halo and
surrounded by a throne of elephants and mythical beasts. Two attendants flank an offering table below
with lamas floating above.
