A LACQUERED GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI
MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
The deity is cast seated in dhyanasana with hands held in dhyanamudra. The figure wears loosely draped
robes belted at the waist and open at the chest to reveal an incised swastika, the robes are lacquered in red
and incised with floral scrolls at the hems. His hair is cast in tightly curled knots and he has long pendulous
earlobes. His face is modelled with a serene expression and downcast eyes.
