SUFFRAGE & THE FEMINISM MOVEMENT
Give Women More Opportunities by Ida Rauh (Kodzo Mlagani)
Today, we all face one huge issue in our community; what place should we reserve for women in
our society. The debate is not new, and has been discussed throughout many generations to figure out
what direction to take. Some issues have been achieved to improve women's conditions, but nowadays
the biggest fight remains; obtaining of the right for women to vote. This will build an equal society for
both, men and women.
The suffrage movement will allow them to place their voice and opinion in a vote, and also
resolve many cases for women in today’s society. Their contributions could life altering since women
represent at least half of our total citizens. It will be devastating if we don't give women the chance to be
an active part of our political and social development. We cannot progress in the coming generations
without giving equal opportunity and a voice to each gender. Today well educated women are able to
lead a community, work in the office, and defend a political opinion or position. They can also guide
other people, or contribute on the national or international political field. The world around us is
progressing, and as a leader in economic world power, we need to do make changes now. Other
countries are already taking action on the subject, and we do not want to fall behind. It’s time for us to
stand up and make a change.
We all believe in something new and better, something that will subdue the frustration in us and
the community. The right to vote will bring new hope, vision, and light. As poet Ezra Pound said, “We
need to see things differently, to make it new”. In other words, we need to rebuild the rights and laws
that are guiding our country, and push all those lawmakers to think about the equality of every human
being. This is the key to our future, and social and economic evolution. Women work just as hard as the
men in order to keep our economy thriving. Women can also provide for a family as men do. They can
work, take care of the, and still be a loving wife to their husbands. New days are coming, and we all
need to be a part of the evolution of America and the world.
