Newsletter of the European Chiropractors’ Union
Convention
“Dr Morgan opened the plenary with a motivating call to action for us all to stop fighting the battles which are not helpful to us! He highlighted that although our ‘scope of knowledge should always exceed our scope of practice’ we should not deplete our resources but channel them to our breakthroughs
in the battlefield of research and health
care and stop fighting other battles! These breakthroughs in research and outcomes are how we demonstrate our value and we must ‘lead from our centre’ and continue to seek the knowledge that powers this.
“Bill’s military metaphors really brought home to me the fact that as chiropractors we do have to fight to maintain and improve our footing in the world of health care, but that for a relatively small profession we certainly do pack a big punch!
“The ECU convention left me feeling motivated and ready to go back to the UK with renewed passion for my work and a greater sense of where and how evidence- based chiropractic is growing.”

A new home for Nude II by Phylactis Ierides
WE REPORTED in the last edition
that the celebrated sculptor and chiropractor Phylactis Ierides had donated one of this works to be auctioned at the Limassol ECU Convention in May 2017. Interest in the small statue was intense right from the start when the Mayor of Limassol, Mr Nikos Nikolaides, referred to the historic and artistic heritage of the island. There followed a busy trade in tickets for the draw, which collected €1250 to be shared between the ECU Humanitarian award
and a cause to be chosen by the Cyprus Chiropractic Association (later designated as help towards continuing education
for local chiropractors). The draw was
held during the lively gala dinner amidst
energetic dancing to
the blues music of the Zilla Project. Australia emerged victorious in the person of Keith Charlton from Brisbane, where
he is adjunct professor
at Central Queensland
University. Keith had
earlier led a plenary
session on normal neck
movement. He was
later seen at Larnaca airport with a bulging and heavy briefcase transporting the
statue to the Antipodes. Now Nude II sits resplendent on the dining table of his home in its rightful place as a family heirloom.
