Pulling up to Coffee Pot Landing, I made another newbie mistake I had made at Wanagan and
other minor locations that first week on the River. –DON’T TRUST THE RIVER BOTTOM.
Use or abuse or just simple normal Muddy Mississippi River made for some treacherous land-
ing locations at these sites when the waters were low, (but then again it could happen at high
water.)
But trying to make land when the landing is a mud chute 10 feet long just doesn’t work. And
when you try you step out or step aside or just get out of the boat with your mudders on…..
OH WELL………
Somewhere below the surface of the water and a few feet down in the mud a pair of rubber
boots stand as silent statues to a memorial of me that I came, I saw, …..the river conquered.
It was rock cement like quicksand. “Ain’t now way” I was pulling my legs back up once they
went down. Since the sky was threatening ……….barefoot it was ………...I pulled the kayaks
up on shore and started off loading before the sky started to do the same on me.
WOW I thought. Two Cabins. I had the whole pace to myself .
