 SARAH LOUISE CHAUHAN
FOUNDER OF SLC TUITION
Hi, I’m Sarah Louise Chauhan, founder of SLC Tuition. After several years working both in schools as a qualified Physics teacher and privately as a tutor for another tuition centre I decided that the best way to pursue my passion of educating bright and hardworking students was to start my own tuition company. I had grown frustrated by the culture of mediocrity that I found in both my professional teaching practise and in the private tuition centre which I was working at and so I decided to ‘go it alone’.
Over ten years have passed since I made that momentous decision. During that time I have helped countless primary school students pass their eleven plus exam and therefore go on to the grammar or independent school of their choice. I feel proud of the fact that I have helped these children and their parents navigate the often difficult and confusing eleven plus process and know that the boys and girls that I have tutored will go on to make a positive contribution to society.
In addition to my work with eleven plus students I also tutor GCSE and A Level Maths and Sciences and work as an examiner for AQA. As a child I loved science and it remains my passion to this day – I can often be found with a copy of New Scientist magazine in one hand and a cup of tea in the other! My students have
gone on to gain entry to some of the most prestigious sixth forms and universities in the UK (even Oxbridge!).
My approach to tuition at 11+, GCSE and A – Level is the same; I firstly establish a thorough understanding of all topics and then work with my students on exam prep and exam technique. I think my work as a GCSE and A – Level tutor improves my eleven plus teaching as over the years I have become an expert in exam prep and exam technique.
If I had to give one tip for parents, it would be to work on your child’s character above all else. Through praising your child’s effort levels instead of the results they achieve, you will establish a growth mindset and will develop a hardworking child who will then be able to pass their eleven plus, GCSE and A – Level exams. Learning is not always easy, but a hardworking child will overcome what a lazy student cannot.
My big wish is that one of my students will go on to be a real ground breaker – perhaps they will cure cancer, develop a Theory of Everything or win a Nobel Prize. Perhaps they might even remember me!
P.S. I’d like to thank Agness and the rest of the admin team for welcoming me so kindly into the group. I’m proud to be part of such a professional and supportive team and look forward to many happy and productive years working together.
